Ring of Reflection
Sandy Hook Memorial Competition
Newtown, CT
A wild meadow inspired by the clay imprints of children's hands leads to a formal luminous ring of reflection in this competition entry for a memorial of remembrance and healing in Newtown, CT. In the meadow, the memorial looks outward, embracing life, bringing people together, celebrating the limitless possibilities of children's imaginations. In the ring of reflection, the memorial looks inward, providing a protected place of peace and comfort, where each of us, alone, can remember the children and educators who lost their lives on December 14, 2012. The memorial is a place for solitary thought and collective observance, both essential to the challenge of remembrance and healing. The 2017 competition was sponsored by the Sandy Hook Memorial Commission and Newtown, CT.
